Hannes Hofmann has just completed his PhD at the University of Alberta in Development of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) in Northern Alberta and accepted a 2-year post-doctoral position at the University of Groningen in The Netherlands to work on the project related to using depleted gas fields as geothermal reservoir.
Hannes is truly an outstanding example for an active research collaboration enabled through Helmholtz-Alberta Initiative. He comes from Germany where he completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Technology in Berlin. He came to Alberta to do his his PhD, but he continued working with both his German and his Canadian supervisor, as well as using the facilities on both sides of the Atlantic.
